“I dare to speak in class now, and I have to thank the Roeland language camps for that”

Achille, age 14, studies Science and Geology in Dutch at an immersion school in Wallonia. “My parents signed me up for a language vacation to boost my language skills. My courage to speak up has immensely improved because of the language camps.”

Achille is the lucky winner of our contest ‘Win back your camp 2026’. Last year he visited the camp ‘Flemish people in the world’ and this summer he will join the ‘An adventure in the Netherlands’.

The first days, there ‘s always some adapting to do

Achille’s parents signed him up for the Roeland Dutch language camps because of their ‘complete immersion’ characteristics. “The first days I have adapt to it; it is not always easy and I am a little bit shy, even. But with the passing of each day, it gets much easier very quickly”.

Boosting self-confidence

“At the camp, I get to learn new words and sentence structures in the language labs. But on top of that, I notice a giant boost of my self-confidence. ”And that’s the confidence he takes with him to school. “In class, I feel more at ease and I speak up more often.”

Great moments between friends

When at camp, Achille likes the sports activities such as minigolf, laser game and pedal boating the most. Also, the evening activities are impressive. “You are with friends and you get to create beautiful moments. So, it is obvious that I await the next summer with anticipation. That I did win the contest ‘Win your camp back’ is without a doubt a nice extra”.
