Dear diary… La vie du bon côté

Arno joined the French language camp ‘La vie du bon côté’ in Virton. Read along in his diary.

Day 1: Let the adventure begin!

Today we arrived safely in Virton. Things started off well right away, just like our camp motto: “La vie du bon côté!”

In the afternoon we played an amazing game that allowed us to get to know each other better, step by step, all in French of course! Afterwards, the instructors staged a little show to let us guess which workshops we would be choosing from during the camp. It was a hilarious moment!

Later that day we attended the first language workshop with our coach. It was exciting and I was a little nervous, but it actually went quite well. Now I am going to have a good night’s rest. See you tomorrow!

Day 2: Sports, games, and Flemish stew

This morning, we woke up around 8. After a good breakfast we left for a language workshop. Afterwards, we stretched our muscles, and we did some warming-up exercises before practising sports for several hours. We could choose basketball, hockey, dodgeball, and more.

During lunch break, the coordination team spoiled us with a delicious meal: Flemish stew with fries. Mmm, it was delicious! This afternoon we went on a treasure hunt. To find the right coordinates, we had to solve puzzles, do all kinds of tests, and show our research skills.

Now we all enjoy a wonderful time at the bar before going to bed. Tomorrow we'll discover what Virton has to offer. Sleep tight!

Day 3: Enjoying a day of nature in Virton

This Wednesday we took a nice walk in the woods around Virton. Fortunately, for most of the time we walked in the shade because it was quite warm. During the walk we completed a bingo game with some cool challenges such as finding different insects, picking a bouquet of flowers, asking questions to local pedestrians, and so much more.

Before we went to dinner in the evening, we took a quick nap. That did us a world of good. At dinner we competed against each other in a pie-making contest. Everyone wanted to win, I loved the atmosphere!

Day 4: Adrenaline and action in Florenville

This morning, we ate delicious croissants. Then we played some team building games.

In the afternoon we went on a zip line. It was a little scary, but very cool! We also went tree climbing and wall climbing. I really like these kinds of activities. They are challenging but fun.

When we got back to the boarding school, we had pizza and ice cream outside, on the lawn. We took the theatre workshop and did body painting. It was a lot of fun. Then we built a large campfire during the survival workshop. We sang songs, ate marshmallows, and talked for a while. Then we went to sleep. It was a lovely day!

Day 5: A casino night full of glamour and fun

We started our day well, by sleeping in. During the language workshop we made laws for our invented country. Then we went to the store to buy appetisers for tonight.

The casino evening was officially announced at lunch. The teachers each asked someone out to the casino, and then we could ask someone out ourselves. We ate meatballs in tomato sauce, it was delicious!

The second language workshop resulted in a self-made treasure map. During the creative workshop we worked on our escape room. That will be so much fun!

Then it was time for casino night. Everyone was dressed very glamorously. We played games to win (fake) money. At the end we had a nice group conversation, where everyone talked about their day.

Day 6: An unforgettable excursion

This Sunday we went on an excursion for a beautiful day full of fun. First, we went to Bouillon, where we visited the medieval castle and saw the falconry show. It was quite spectacular to watch these birds in action.

After a little picnic in the park, we explored the city. We went pedal boating, very enjoyable. Since it was quite warm in the city, we were able to relax at Lake Douzy. We swam, played games, and just had a wonderful time.

We ended the day quietly with a beautiful movie. Unfortunately, tomorrow it is time to go back home. I will never forget all my experiences here at camp. Our motto was actually very well chosen, it was really “la vie du bon côté”!
