Junior Dutch - Content in Gent
During this camp, children from all over the world meet each other in the heart of Ghent. The programme includes lots of culture, including drama, storytelling and a visit to the old town. The typical Flemish cuisine, such as the tasty "neuzekes" or hot waffles will make an appearance as well, of course. Are you already quite good at speaking Dutch and do you want to make friends all over the world? Let's meet up in Ghent!
This camp is organized in cooperation with Vlamingen in de Wereld. This organization for expats brings together participants from all over the world to be immersed in Dutch language and culture for a whole week.
Activities
- Practice your Dutch three to four times a day during fun language workshops adjusted to your level.
- Singing sessions! We bet you'll be singing these catchy Dutch songs for years to come!
- You will be sure to get plenty of exercise thanks to the sports and big games on offer!
- You will be immersed in the rich culture and unique atmosphere of Ghent. Past activities have included a drama workshop with professional actors, a puppet theatre and all kinds of eloquent storytellers.
- Thanks to the cosy setting, everyone feels at ease at the camp. In the evening, we gather around to listen to cozy stories or beautiful music, before heading off for a peaceful night’s rest.
Full immersion
Unlike other junior camps, this camp takes place entirely in Dutch, and participants will be required to stick to the target language at all times. We therefore expect participants to have at least a basic level of Dutch: they can introduce themselves, talk about their feelings, ask simple questions and understand everyday questions and instructions without much difficulty. If you have any doubts whether this is the correct fit for your child, please contact us!
Excursions
Art and culture are always right behind the corner in the photogenic centre of Ghent. A city walk will have us wandering amongst the trendy coffee bars and ancient facades, discovering the most beautiful corners of this vibrant city. You won't know where to begin as we see one beautiful building after another glide by from our boat. Along the way we will see the impressive Castle of the Counts and we will greet the throngs of students enjoying an ice cream on the Graslei.
Roeland ClassicFull immersion
You'll experience Roeland's well-known recipe for success: during the camp, you will only speak the target language, as will the camp coaches. The team consists of native speakers and/or speakers who have a very good command of the language. They will help you express yourself fluently in the target language. It's ok to make mistakes, of course, as long as you try!
During the camp, you will follow language workshops in small groups and according to your level. This classic formula is the best way to make great progress and have fun. By the end of camp, you'll even be dreaming in the target language!

Nieuwen Bosch
Nieuwen Bosch is an oasis of peace and calm tucked away in the centre of historical Ghent. Beneath the site’s tall trees, you will find a multi-purpose sports hall, volleyball, mini-football and basketball courts, a recently refurbished playground and a spacious theatre. Summer camps in Oostakker: Camp participants sleep in single rooms.
