GO BACKDutch junior - Groeten uit Gent
Nice to meet you! There is no better environment to take your first steps towards speaking Dutch than the beautiful city of Ghent. Through playing games, singing songs and taking part in all kinds of fun activities, you will soon learn how to introduce yourself to your new friends, how to ask for directions or what your favourite animal is called, all in Dutch!
Activities
- Playful language workshops in small groups based on language level. Each language workshop focuses on a different theme: animals, the weather, the city, etc.
- Choose from a number of fun workshops (e.g. arts and crafts, a music workshop, a dance workshop, etc.). There is something for everyone!
- Sing along! You will be learning some great, catchy Dutch songs. We bet you'll still be singing them days later!
- You will be sure to get more than enough exercise thanks to the sports and big games on offer!
- Pssst, we shouldn't really be saying this, but did you know that there will also be a surprise excursion to an as-yet undisclosed location? Don't tell anyone, ok?
Have you not started Dutch at school yet?
Don’t worry – you definitely won’t be the only one! Here at camp, everyone helps each other out. Also, since you are allowed to speak in your native language with the other kids, so you can always ask a friend if you don’t know what a word means.
The group leaders at our junior camps do speak Dutch all the time, but they will use all means necessary to explain everything clearly! The Head of Project will also explain everything in your mother tongue during the day’s ‘bilingual moment’, to make sure that everyone can follow along easily.
Discovery – partial immersion
At these camps for beginners, you are still allowed to speak in your mother tongue with other participants. The group leaders will use the target language (e.g. French during a French camp) throughout the camp, while helping you to learn as many new words and sentences as possible. To make sure that everyone can follow along easily, each day features a ‘bilingual moment’, when the activities will be explained in both the target language and your mother tongue. During playful language workshops, you will be divided into small groups according to your level. The focus on language continues throughout the other activities as well, however. As your knowledge of the target language grows, we will increasingly challenge you to speak the target language, thus ensuring that you will learn how to express yourself more confidently by the end of the week.

Coach transport
Coach transport is not included in the basic price and amounts to 55 euros (return).
Location
Nieuwen Bosch is an oasis of peace and calm tucked away in the centre of historical Ghent. Beneath the site’s ancient trees, you will find a multi-purpose sports hall, tennis, volleyball, mini-football and basketball courts, a recently refurbished playground and a spacious theatre. Camp participants sleep in single rooms.
